Calculating Child Support in Michigan

In Michigan, a Child Support Formula is used as a guideline and is presumed to be correct unless it is shown to be unjust or inappropriate under the circumstances in a particular case. These child support guidelines are based on the monthly net income of both parents.

Child support agreements are reviewed by the Court to ensure the appropriate amount of child support is being paid for the child or children. There may be situations that the Court does not use the income guidelines for the determination, but that is up to the discretion of the particular Court.
